SVHC (Substance of Very High Concern)

A Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) is a chemical the European Chemicals Agency has identified as carcinogenic, environmentally persistent or otherwise seriously hazardous, and added to REACH's Candidate List. The list is updated roughly twice a year.

Why it matters

If any SVHC is present above the REACH threshold in any part of your product, EU law gives consumers a right to ask for that information, and above certain levels you have a duty to notify it, so the Candidate List needs periodic rechecking, not a one-time review.
