Notified body
A notified body is an independent testing and certification organisation, accredited by an EU member state and listed by the European Commission, authorised to carry out third-party conformity assessment for products where self-assessment is not permitted.
Why it matters
Higher-risk radio, machinery and other regulated products can require notified body sign-off before you may affix CE marking at all, and their assessment can take weeks to months. Building notified body lead time into a launch schedule early avoids missing a shipping or crowdfunding date.
