Conformity assessment

Conformity assessment is the process, set out in each individual regulation, by which a manufacturer demonstrates a product meets its essential requirements: it can be pure self-assessment, self-assessment against a designated standard, or third-party testing and certification by a notified body.

Why it matters

The available conformity assessment routes for your product decide whether you can sign off compliance yourself or must budget time and money for external certification; the same product category can require different routes in different regions or for different features.
